Outside the graduation theatre. The Sheldonian Theatre is the principal assembly room of the University, where all public ceremonies of the University are held inside. The theatre was erected in 1667 sponsored by the Archibishop of Canterbury, Gilber Sheldon, and so gave his name to the building.
